No free space on C Drive

I have no free space on my C Drive, but D partition and other volumes have free space, much of it, left, how can i move free space from other partition to C Drive, Disk Management of Windows 7 seemed not working, or capable of moving, besides, the Extend Volume option is grayed out, I presume that’s because I’m not using dynamic disk.

No, neither Windows Disk Management nor diskpart command is able to move data without deleting volumes. The only way to move free space from one place to another is to use third-party disk managing software, Partition Expert can be the choice, especially when you’re using Windows Server, the unique Roll-back technology will protect data when resizing, shrinking partition or moving free space from one to another.

The theory of resizing C Drive or move free space to C Drive is easy, we first shrink free space from a partition which has enough of unused space, then we move it to C Drive and get C Drive extended. Operations on Partition Expert are easy too, like the followings:

  1. Download Macrorit Partition Expert, install and Run or directly run it if you downloaded the portable package.
  2. Click on a large sized volume, E Drive, eg, ahead of which is D Drive, for example, then click on the Resize/Move volume option to resize this drive.
  3. This volume can now be resized, just hold the handle at the head of the bar and drag it rightward, then it’s shrank. Click OK to close this window when the preview of the disk-map satisfies you.
  4. Then click on D Drive, click the same option, then you can see the free space is at the end of the bar, hold and drag the D Drive to the end so the free space can be moved to the top, click OK to proceed.
  5. Click on C Drive, yes, Resize it, then hold and drag the handle at the right-side to the end, click OK and Commit.

Now, Partition Expert will extend the low disk space C Drive with the free space you shrank from E Drive, then it will reload the disk-map. To check the volume color is red or blue, press Windows + E to open File Explorer and you can see the system drive shall color in blue.
